Social Research – Situation Analysis
DCDM performed an assignment for the UNDP, which is the preparation of the UNDAF-Mauritius. The UNDAF (United Nations Development Assistance Framework) is a framework for collaboration and lays the foundation for greater co-operation between the UN system organisations and the Government of Mauritius, the private sector and civil society. It has been developed to bring greater coherence to the United Nations (UN) programme of assistance. DCDM acted as facilitator to the various workshops which were held among key development partners in the country and was also responsible for drafting the UNDAF document. The UNDAF-Mauritius has been classified as a best practice for the UNDAF exercise.
Social Research – Poverty Assessment
DCDM was solicited by an international organisation to carry out a study on Key Areas of Vulnerabilities in Mauritius. The objective of the research was to increase co-ordination among the various programmes undertaken in the social sphere as well as promote collaborative efforts among the various development partners in the country. The study comprised an identification of key areas of social vulnerabilities in the country, an assessment of whether existing social programmes have covered these key areas identified and the formulation of recommendations for improving co-ordination.
Social Research – Gender Analysis
DCDM conducted a study on Feminisation of Poverty in Mauritius on behalf of government and the UNDP. The objective of the project was to understand and gather relevant insights into the gender dimension of poverty as well as determining whether there was a trend in the feminisation of poverty. The study consisted of an in-depth analysis of existing gender disaggregated data as well as a qualitative research in two regions of the country, rural and urban respectively. The approach adopted for the survey was largely participatory, involving consultation with and listening to people in the local communities.
Social Research - Needs Assessment
DCDM conducted an assessment of the incidence and implications of over-indebtedness among domestic households in Mauritius. The objective of the study was to determine the socio-demographic and socio-economic profile of over-indebted households and identify the causes and consequences of over-indebtedness. On the basis of this information, policy recommendations were formulated on how to bring support to over-indebted households and also, how to reduce the incidence of over-indebtedness in the country.
Social Research - Study on the contribution and needs of elderly people in Mauritius
